Laboratory safety

As a member of staff, you will be entering laboratory areas. To ensure your personal protection and that of other users, you need to acquire the basic knowledge to master good laboratory practice.

This training course, offered in the form of three modules, enables you to cover all the theory at a distance, then go into more detail in the classroom to finish with the practical part in your laboratory with all the knowledge required. Please note that this training is compulsory for anyone with access to the laboratories.

Available in English and French.

Module 1: Online training

25-minute online training course to cover the basics of safety in laboratories. This module 1 is a requisite for preregistration.

Objectives:

  • Know the security actors at UNIL and essential emergency numbers
  • Identifying hazards in a laboratory
  • Know the protective measures
  • Know the procedure to adopt in the event of an accident

Module 2: Theoretical classroom training

  • Training of 2h in classroom in the Geopolis building at room 1881
  • 10 à 15 participants
  • Dispensed by Dr Thierry Meyer EPFL and one UniSEP trainer

Objectives:

  • Recognise hazards in a laboratory
  • Identify the protective measures à to wear
  • Acquire knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Adopt the correct behaviour in the event of an accident

Module 3: Practical training in the working environment

Location and duration to be agreed with your Security correspondent (COSEC).
We also ask you to equip yourselves with your PPE so that you can enter the laboratory.

Objectives:

  • Recognise hazards in the work environment
  • Know the rules in force and the behaviour to adopt in your specific laboratories
