Horticulturist - landscaping option

What does an apprenticeship as a horticulturist – Landscaping option at UNIL entail?

Landscaping apprentices learn how to landscape and maintain green spaces. This course enables them to tackle a variety of tasks in the fields of construction (creating paving slabs, paving stones and low walls) and garden planting (trees, hedges, flower beds and grass seedlings).

The apprentice will also learn different techniques for maintaining green spaces, as well as how to handle the many machines used to carry out these various tasks.

Why do an apprenticeship as a horticulturist – Landscaping option UNIL?

The UNIL site allows you to work on a large area, including 70 hectares of green spaces. The Dorigny campus, which is entirely environmentally managed, encourages the learning of environmentally-friendly working methods. The rich biodiversity makes it easy to learn about plants and natural environments. The presence of a sports area is also an asset in terms of specific knowledge of the area. In addition, other aspects are covered, such as the forest, the contrast between nature and urban development, the many perennial beds, the areas used by sheep, the hay, and much more.

To do this job, you need to be in good physical condition, keen to work outdoors in all weathers, have a keen awareness of nature, a good memory for plant knowledge and a taste for manual work.
