Here you can find the main figures on equality at UNIL. The breakdown between men and women among students, UNIL staff and the evolution of female representation on the teaching staff.
The survey, carried out by the Equality Office between February and March 2020, shows that the vast majority of professors at UNIL shared their lives with a partner in paid employment at the time of their appointment.
Almost 30% were living with someone pursuing an academic career. Reconciling these two careers was a real difficulty for more than half of them.
This is particularly true for women, since almost two-thirds of female professors in dual-career couples said that they had encountered difficulties reconciling their academic career with their partner's professional career at the time of their appointment as a professor. And more than half of them say that they are still finding it difficult to reconcile their career with that of their partner.
In view of these results and the targeted efforts made by UNIL to recruit women professors, support for dual-career couples seems particularly important in order to hire more women and encourage them to stay for the long term.
An analysis of salary equality at UNIL shows that there is no systematic discrimination against women when it comes to setting salaries. UNIL therefore respects the constitutional principle of equal pay for work of equal value.
However, women are still under-represented in the upper echelons of the hierarchy and in positions requiring the highest levels of skill. To this end, UNIL intends to take targeted action to support female careers and promote working conditions that encourage equal opportunities in the academic, administrative and technical sectors.
Since 09.06.2020, UNIL has been a signatory to the Federal charter for equal pay in the public sector.
