The University of Lausanne offers a range of language courses to high school and vocational college students to develop their skills in English and German to a high level, with a view to taking an exam leading to one of the following certifications certifications:

  • Cambridge University Certificate - B2 First or C1 Advanced (English)
  • Certificate from the Goethe Institute - B2 or C1 (German)

Once you have completed the form below, you will be emailed the rest of the registration process, including our placement test. Where possible, you will then be placed in a group corresponding to your level (minimum B2). This is a preparatory course, the exam itself is chargeable and registration is personal and independent of the Language Centre.

Preparation for the Cambridge University Certificate (B2 or C1)

Would you like to obtain an internationally recognised certificate to prove your high-level profile in English? Take part in a Cambridge University Certificate C1 or C2 preparation course to make it easier to pass the exam

Practical information

  • Required level: B2
  • Placement in a B2 or C1 group depending on test result
  • Age: from 16, post-compulsory level only
  • Dates autumn 2023: from Tuesday 26 September to Tuesday 19 December 2023
  • Dates Spring 2024: from Tuesday 27 February to Tuesday 28 May 2024 (except Tuesday 3 April Pâques)
  • Time: Tuesday from 5:15pm to 6:45pm
  • Location : University of Lausanne (room to be confirmed)

Objectives of this workshop

  • In social, professional and academic contexts, express oneself spontaneously, fluently and precisely; in the event of difficulty, resume and reformulate one's speech
  • Understand complex texts of all kinds and in different subject areas
  • Understand complex speeches in different contexts without difficulty, take notes
  • Restitute facts and arguments from written and oral sources, summarising them in a coherent manner
  • Write complex, clear and well-structured texts in a style appropriate and adapted to the target audience
  • Appreciate the socio-cultural implications of the language used by other speakers and act accordingly
  • Apply strategies to better study and manage exams

Preparation for the Goethe Institute Certificate (B2 or C1)

  • Time: Monday from 5:15pm à 6:45pm
  • Location : University of Lausanne (room to be confirmed)

Objectives of this workshop

  • Interact spontaneously and appropriately, express ideas and opinions with precision, present a point of view, present a topic of general interest adapted to the target audience.
  • Comprehend fairly complex general interest texts as a whole and in detail; identify and record specific information from a televised conversation.
  • Read fairly complex texts as a whole and in detail, locate specific information, identify common themes in several texts
  • Rendering an argumentative text on a subject of general interest, adapting to the reader, mastering the style of the language.
  • Know some aspects of German-speaking culture
  • Apply strategies to better study for and manage exams
