The CIVIS Alliance offers UNIL teachers mobility opportunities to visit partner universities, exchange with their Alliance counterparts, and participate as partners in blended intensive programmes (BIPs).

Visit a CIVIS partner university

UNIL's funding programme for the CIVIS European University supports networking activities, as well as participation in or organisation of preparatory meetings for collaborative initiatives with CIVIS Alliance member universities, such as BIPs and the development of joint degrees.

  • To meet potential partners.
  • To establish initial contacts, to exchange activities ideas and to explore the compatibility of collaboration in the future.
  • The possibility of applying for up to CHF 1,000 as a contribution towards travel costs (economy class) and accommodation.
  • Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis, if the project is relevant to the objectives of the CIVIS European University.
  • Be a researcher in any discipline – professors, MERs and/or young researchers, researchers (post-PhD) -, or administrative and technical staff at UNIL;
  • Have a UNIL employment contract covering the entire project period;
  • The application must explain the importance of the contact for future collaboration and how the visit could initiate a lasting partnership in research, teaching or institutional relations between UNIL and the partner institution;
  • The organisation of the trip must strictly apply the Directive 0.8;
  • The UNIL employee will be reimbursed by the CIVIS Unit after his/her trip upon presentation of an expense report and supporting documents.
  • Applications can be submitted throughout the year, but at least four weeks before UNIL's departure. Please submit the following documents:
    • Travel fund application form
    • For young researchers (postdocs): statement of support from your chair/institute
  • The application must be submitted as a single PDF file by email to: civis@unil.ch.
  • The funding decision will be communicated within six weeks of submission. If accepted, the activities must be carried out within one year from the date of confirmation of the grant.

Participation in the organisation of BIPs

Blended Intensives Programmes (BIPs) are offered by CIVIS to support the development of short-term mobility as a new mobility format in the Erasmus+ programme. Each BIP combines online learning with a short five-day period of physical mobility at a CIVIS university. This format, which is similar to a summer or winter school, is designed to promote short-term mobility, while offering students at all levels (bachelor's, master's, PhD) international experience.

  • Proposals must involve at least 3 CIVIS member universities ;
  • The teaching programme must be worth between 3 and 6 ECTS ;
  • The programme must be in a mixed format (virtual sessions and five days of physical mobility) ;
  • The programme must be linked to one of the Alliance's themes:
  • A minimum of 10 students must take part in the programme ;
  • BIPs may or may not be part of institutions’s existing course offerings. They may be entirely new teaching or the adaptation of an existing course by adding features such as the hybrid teaching mode and the participation of other institutions in the alliance.

Participating in the organization of a BIP implies that the UNIL teacher is a partner, with the BIP teaching coordinated by another CIVIS member university, and that the teacher's mobility will take place in the coordinating university.

  • Travel and participation costs are covered by UNIL in accordance with the SEMP teaching exchange principle.
  • Funding is conditional on a minimum of 8 hours‘ teaching and 2 days’ mobility and a maximum of 2 weeks.
