Standard questionnaires and « importance-performance » questionnaires can be used as part of the Students' Evaluation of Teaching (SET) according to the Directive 3.22 of the Rectorate.
The CSE offers UNIL teachers various questionnaire models. Without any particular adaptation, they provide basic quantitative and qualitative data on how their teaching is working from the point of view of the students. They can, however, be fully customised, according to your needs, in order to obtain the most useful feedback from your students. The questionnaires can be consulted on the evaluation website.
These questionnaires can be used in particular for the Students' Evaluation of Teaching (SET), following the procedure available at www.unil.ch/evaluation (with the exception of teaching in the School of Medicine, which is monitored by UpMed).
Complete analyses for results obtained by questionnaires can be produced on request.
The mid-semester questionnaire is a short questionnaire (maximum 6 questions) that focuses on the areas where you want to get quick feedback from students. It enables you to gather students' initial impressions and to adapt your teaching according to the results; this is why this evaluation is carried out by mid-semester at the latest.
A prior meeting or telephone interview with the CSE is required to finalise the content of the questionnaire.
The qualitative questionnaire consists exclusively of open-ended questions. It is primarily intended for evaluating small-scale teaching (fewer than 10 students), but can also provide more in-depth information on particular aspects of your teaching. It gives students more freedom to develop their answers.
A prior meeting or telephone conversation with the CSE is necessary to finalise the content of the questionnaire and to prepare for the processing of the results.
The cross-analysis of the results of the two questionnaires provides quantitative and qualitative data on how your teaching works and on the importance of each dimension for student learning. These questionnaires were developed as part of a research project and tested in a number of courses. Cross-analysis of the results will give you a better understanding of which aspects in particular to develop in your teaching.
These questionnaires can be used in particular for the Students' Evaluation of Teaching (SET), following the procedure available at www.unil.ch/evaluation (with the exception of teaching in the School of Medicine, which is monitored by UpMed).
A meeting with the CSE is required. Questionnaires are sent to all students, provided a minimum of 10 students. Please set aside 10 minutes during a course to fill out the questionnaire.
At the end of a teaching session, you can give your students a few minutes to record on a piece of paper the most positive points of your teaching, the points that could be improved and any suggestions or comments they may have. This will give you an initial idea of their appreciation of your teaching and, if necessary, enable you to adjust it accordingly.
You can carry out this type of quick evaluation yourself at any time during the semester. This type of evaluation is better suited to smaller groups, because of the potential diversity of responses. If requested in advance, we can carry out the processing and a rapid analysis of the results.
