Fire prevention

This two-module course teaches the principles of material combustion, fire classes and types of extinguisher, while using the extinguishing equipment available at UNIL, such as fire extinguishers, fire blankets and fire hoses. All in conditions that are close to the real thing, but in complete safety.

This training obligatory and free is aimed to all UNIL staff (with the exception of students) must be renewed every 5 years.

It is available in English and French.

Module 1: Fighting fires

  • Online training of 20 minutes.
  • This module 1 is a requisite for preregistration.

Objectives:

  • Know the emergency numbers at UNIL
  • Identify the necessary conditions à the birth of a fire
  • Recognise the fire extinguisher to use according to the type of fire

Module 2: Extinguishing systems

  • 2 hours training in classroom at Geopolis building, room 1881
  • 4 to 12 participants

Objectives:

  • Understand the conditions necessary for a fire to start
  • Know how to explain the fire triangle
  • Recognise the different classes of fire
  • Practising using extinguishing systems on real fires
