Created in 2006 and attached to the Ecological Transition and Campus Department, Unibat is a multidisciplinary team of nearly 80 people whose activities are centred on technical aspects, logistics, energy management, development and maintenance of green spaces, and planning of construction and heavy maintenance projects.
Unibat works on a daily basis to build, maintain and transform UNIL's infrastructure in order to comply with articles 43 (Buildings) and 44 (Infrastructure and Facilities) of the Lausanne University Act. The stakes are high, as on the one hand we have to meet the needs of an ever-growing university community, but on the other hand, pay particular attention to the issues of sustainability and energy efficiency, which are now cornerstones of all our projects.
Management of architectural and technical projects |
This involves planning, coordinating and monitoring projects relating to UNIL's buildings. It includes the design, renovation and extension of university buildings, as well as their technical aspects, such as managing heating, ventilation and electrical systems. Unibat works on the entire project life cycle, from the initial planning phase through to implementation and subsequent maintenance.

Campus development and university master plan |
What will the campus be like in 2050? The Dorigny site resembles a small town, with some 35,000 students and staff. To anticipate, channel and reflect on this development, UNIL and EPFL decided to draw up a joint master plan, consulting campus users through discussion forums, an online survey and an exhibition. Planète UNIL app |
Planète UNIL is a multi-platform application that makes it easy to get around the campus and discover its many resources. This responsive application adapts to all devices (phones, tablets and computers) and is regularly updated; it is a real guide that can help locate a building, auditorium, car park or any other point of interest in Dorigny, CHUV or Epalinges. It can also be used to plan a route, making it easy to get from one place to another on campus, and to share addresses using a QR code. Finally, the location of the famous sheep flocks on the Dorigny campus is updated daily on Planète UNIL! |
