Research themes

Acknowledged by many ambassadors, such as the 2017 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, Jacques Dubochet, research at UNIL can be divided into five major cross-disciplinary areas:

• Health, with UNIL and Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) making Lausanne a world hub for oncology research, among other things.
• Environment, with a dedicated Faculty and a recognised institutional commitment to making UNIL a pioneer in sustainability.
• Society, with world-renowned criminology experts, sociologists and sports specialists.
• Economics, with international researchers from diverse backgrounds who make a notable contribution to scientific, economic and political debates.
• Culture, with research groups in archaeology, history, literature and the performing arts, in particular.
