This note proposes to specify the procedures for extending the contracts of certain intermediary corps statutes in order to define the situations covered by cases of force majeure justifying a contractual extension within the meaning of art. 24 RA-UL. It should be emphasised that it is not only in the context of the COVID-19 pandora's box that it is intended to allow additional grounds to be taken into account in the application of the provisions of RA-UL, art. 24 in particular, in circumstances with similar effects (pandemics, armed conflicts, natural disasters, etc.)
The following situations may justify a contractual extension, within the meaning of force majeure, pursuant to art 24. RA-UL:
a) Situations where it is impossible to gain access to, or where access is severely hampered by, infrastructures, resources, research data or persons essential to the progress of one's personal research, whether in Switzerland or abroad;

b) Situations in which it is impossible for the person concerned to complete the qualifying or formal steps necessary for his/her’advancement or completion of their doctoral work, on the understanding that these are conditions required in the doctoral regulations of the faculty concerned.
In accordance with the established use of the concept of force majeure, these impossibilities must be due to an unforeseen event;nement à la fois imprévu, insurmontable, résultant de conditions extérieures and indeacute;pendant de la volont&e; du chercheur ou la chercheure.
The Règlement du 13 juin 2007 sur les assistants à l’Université de Lausanne s'applique, s’agissant du corps intermédiaire, aux fonctions engagées sur le fonds de l’Etat de Vaud, soit:
By analogy with the RA-UL, members of the intermediary corps financed by third-party funds may also apply for a contractual extension in the event of force majeure, on the same grounds, in accordance with the terms and conditions specific to their respective statutes. The functions concerned are:
