In addition to producing knowledge related to sustainability through its research community, UNIL also has the role of making its knowledge available to civil society.

In addition to producing knowledge related to sustainability through its research community, UNIL also has a role to play in making its knowledge available to civil society.

It therefore collaborates closely with the canton's schools, and also organises continuing education courses on sustainability issues.

Disseminating knowledge

As a public institution, UNIL's mission is to disseminate scientific knowledge, methodologies, tools and lessons learned from sustainability research projects. To ensure that this knowledge is disseminated widely and in an accessible way to a diverse audience, the university mobilises a number of channels and strategies:

  • Scientific outreach activities and events on topical issues. These open up dialogue, stimulate the exchange of ideas, fuel debate and provide the keys to understanding complex issues such as sustainability. The "Activities for all" section and the Explore website allow you to discover UNIL's activities aimed at the general public.
  • Numerous conferences on the ecological transition. The Sustainability Competence Centre (CCD) has a public calendar listing all the sustainability-related events organised on campus. The CCD also organises an annual series of lectures on key sustainability themes, such as energy saving with the Moins, c'est mieux series.
  • External collaborations. The knowledge acquired is also disseminated through projects in partnership with existing networks of players or through the creation of new networks or exchange platforms.
  • Literature reviews, such as those published by the CCD to clarify concepts central to the debate on ecological transition.
  • Scientific publications produced by researchers in all the university's faculties and research centres.

Support for schools

Aware that the challenges of education in sustainability go beyond the university environment, UNIL is fully committed to supporting and contributing to the establishment of a rich and dynamic education system throughout the canton.

Through its Centre de Compacute;tences en Durabilité, it collaborates closely with the Cellule Durabilité of the Département de l'Enseignement et de la Formation Professionnelle (DEF) of the Canton of Vaud and the HEP-Vaud  to enable the transfer of the most recent academic knowledge to vocational education and training circles (École Vaudoise durable).

It is also developing a range of scientific research on sustainability via its Sciences et Sociét laboratory,L'Éprouvette.
