Teaching

Courses and seminars (Sciences)2 enable students to adopt different points of view on the human being and the world around them, points of view that complement à those offered by the social sciences, historical sciences or cultural sciences.

Courses and seminars (Sciences)2 are taught by lecturers from the UNIL (Faculty of Biology and Medicine and Faculty of Engineering); des géosciences et de l'environnement) and EPFL (Faculté des sciences de base et Faculté des sciences de la vie) sensitive to the problems of the humanities. They cover the fundamental aspects of their discipline, emphasising the principles and issues at stake in their theories and experiments.

Organisation of teaching

There are many teaching exchanges at the Dorigny-Ecublens university site, in particular from the Faculties of Human Sciences to the Faculty of Biology and Medicine (M&E programme) and to the EPFL (via the "Individual-Community-Society" programme): Individual-Community-Society) and to EPFL (via the Collège des humanités de l’EPFL), from the EP39;EPFL to the FBM (via the Collège des sciences de l’UNIL). The Programme (Sciences)2, managed by the Collège des sciences, completes the loop of these échanges.

These optional courses are intended primarily for Bachelor's students in the humanities (Faculties of Arts, SSP, Theology and Religious Studies, HEC), without excluding Master's students or students from other faculties. The ex cathedra courses are supplemented by seminars or practical work that includes oral or written personal work.

The inclusion of courses in study plans and the number of ECTS credits for each course and seminar are decided by the faculties. It is generally possible to take only one course without taking the corresponding seminar. However, it is generally not possible to follow the seminar without having followed the corresponding course, except for the module "From mental activities to behaviour". All lessons will be validated by tests and/or personal assignments (see lesson descriptions).

N.B. The inclusion in the curricula, the method of validation and the number of credits are the responsibility of each Faculty. For this information, please consult your study plan. For the Faculty of Arts options programme, you will find the Science modules by clicking on Programme with option» à the page dedicated to Plans détudes  and by scrolling down to the timetables page.
