The umbrella associations represent other university associations: the FAE represents the representative student associations, ACIDUL the intermediary body and doctoral student associations, and Fédérond the non-representative associations.
When a person registers with UNIL, they automatically become a member of the FAE. Its aim is to enable people to become personally involved and take practical action to defend their rights.
The FAE brings together all the student associations of the UNIL faculties. It defends the rights and interests of students in the context of a democratic university (opposition to the numerus clausus and to increases in tuition fees); This includes opposition to the numerus clausus and increases in tuition fees, the development of a bursary system to ensure equality of opportunity, and the reduction of discrimination between men and women.). The FAE also represents you in dealings with the political and academic authorities and undertakes a number of actions such as demonstrations, assemblies and conferences.
A substantial part of its budget is redistributed in the form of grants to other student organisations wishing to organise political, social or cultural activities and lacking the funds to do so. The FAE also helps students in need through the Student Solidarity Fund, by granting one-off financial assistance.
The FAE is run by an Executive Committee, which deals with day-to-day business and implements the decisions of the Assembly of Representatives (a supreme body half of which is made up of representatives of the FAE); The other half is made up of students chosen by lot, representing the student body as a whole.) Lastly, it is possible to organise General Assemblies on specific subjects, in which any member of the student body can take part.
The General Assemblies are open to all members of the student body.
