Evolution is a great unifying principle that has revolutionised biology and changed our perception of our place in nature. This module provides an overview of the development, challenges and limits of evolutionary biology.
Semester : Autumn
Schedule : Wednesday 10:15am -12:00pm
Classroom : Amphimax 413
Number of hours : 28
This course offers the opportunity to understand the basic principles of how biological evolution works. The aim is to show the extent to which an understanding of the processes of evolution can enrich our understanding of the living world, from molecules to human behaviour.
The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the basic principles of the functioning of biological evolution.
The course covers the fundamental mechanisms of biological evolution. The most important theoretical notions are presented in a historical perspective and illustrated using examples from studies in nature or in the laboratory. The course then shows how an evolutionary approach can help us to better understand the behaviour of animals and humans, emphasising the complexity and richness of the interactions between genes and the environment.
Semester: Spring
Schedule: See locations and dates below
Lesson room:See locations and dates below
Number of hours: 28
This practical seminar is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of how research is carried out in the field of evolution.
This TP-séminaire covers the practical and concrete aspects of today's research in evolutionary biology. Visits to laboratories, practical work, field trips and discussions enable students to refine their perception of the issues and methods of current research in evolution and behavioural biology.
Course: The course can be taken without the practical work.
TP-Seminar: Have taken the course "Evolutionary and Behavioural Biology" in the autumn semester.
Course: examination written in session (organised by the Faculty of SSP).
TP-Seminar: Participation in practical work and excursions, personal work
NB: The credits corresponding to this course cannot be validated for students enrolled in the Bachelor's degree in Biology.
Restrictions:
The TP seminar is limited to 16 students
For the course part:
Registration should be made with the secretariat of the faculty of SSP.
Students from the HEC faculty must go to the SSP faculty secretary's office before their registration can be processed.
