The Culture and Scientific Mediation Department (SCMS) develops cultural and science outreach programmes for the general public, with the aim of sharing academic knowledge and stimulating reflection and dialogue.
The Culture and Scientific Mediation Department (SCMS) is a Rectorate department responsible for implementing the institutional strategy for UNIL’s contribution to society. Its mission is to develop and implement university policy on culture and access to academic research and contemporary knowledge. It develops varied and original programmes, activities and facilities that enable the general public to enjoy sensitive and realistic experiences in the fields of culture and scientific dissemination.
A multi-branded service
L’éprouvette, Laboratory / Sciences and Society / UNIL: L’éprouvette offers educational and practical activities, both in the humanities and social sciences and in life and the environment. Through a variety of innovative formats adapted to each audience, the activities organised allow people to experience science and provide opportunities for dialogue around the knowledge developed at UNIL. Their aim is to stimulate creativity, curiosity, reflection and critical thinking among the general public.
La Grange, Centre / Arts and Sciences / UNIL: La Grange is a theatre for contemporary performing arts and a place for research and experimentation, where artists and scientists work together on new performances. It also supports student artistic projects and gives them visibility at the Nucleo - Vortex, as well as during the Fécule Festival, to stimulate cultural life on campus.
History and City Laboratory: The History and City Laboratory offers a range of outreach services in the historical sciences through a series of events held throughout the year. The aim of these events is to enable citizens to acquire knowledge about the past so that they can better deal with the present. The Laboratory also coordinates the Lausanne section of the History and City Festival.
