Overview

PACTT's mission is to promote the results of research so that they become innovative solutions for the benefit of society and patients. As such, PACTT is also committed to ensuring that research has a positive impact in economic, social, environmental and public health terms.

PACTT's marketing officers and managers advise on and establish the best strategy for generating value from the results obtained by staff at UNIL and CHUV.

PACTT's legal experts are responsible for negotiating contractual relationships with external partners in order to formalise collaborations, comply with institutional directives and prepare for the potential exploitation of the results of future joint ventures.

Finally, PACTT offers financial assistance through the InnoPACTT programme to support the creation of start-ups or to encourage the exploitation of discoveries and software developed by the UNIL and CHUV community.

Promoting and protecting scientific discoveries

PACTT's mission is to assist and support UNIL and CHUV staff in their research collaborations with industry, to exploit discoveries (while assessing the need to register intellectual property rights) and to negotiate and manage research-related contracts and the exploitation of research results with partners (for more information, see the UNIL-CHUV Executive Board Directive on contracts and the exploitation of research – in French).

Research results that can be protected, for example through patents, are the subject of a patent application, which will be filed by PACTT on behalf of UNIL and/or CHUV.

UNIL-CHUV Executive Board Directive

A key focus for the promotion of research

It is recommended that you contact the research and development managers via pactt.license@chuv.ch BEFORE any disclosure of results (submission for publication, conference presentation/poster or any other communication) in order to best safeguard the rights of the contributors and the interests of the institution with which they are affiliated. Any publication of research results without a prior analysis of potential inventions will make it difficult to protect them with a patent and will considerably reduce the chances of a product or service being developed on the basis of this invention.

It is also crucial to contact the legal department via pactt.legal@chuv.ch before any research collaboration and before any exchange of information, data or materials, so that the contribution of UNIL and/or CHUV staff is recognised as clearly as possible and that the collaboration is fruitful and complies with institutional directives.
