What does an apprenticeship as an animal keeper at UNIL involve?

The animal keeper apprentices in the laboratory animal orientation raise and care for animals used for research (mice, rats, frogs, drosophila). They will learn about the different species and breeds of animal used in experiments, the methods of lifting them and how to comply with the appropriate hygiene conditions.

The apprentices work in close collaboration with researchers and look after the welfare of the animals, while ensuring compliance with the legal framework and directives on the subject.
