Conditions for admission and success

The conditions for admission to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, as well as the requirements for passing the preliminary examination, are set out in the Faculty's admission regulations, available on the Faculty's website.

How to register for the entrance exam with the Faculty

You must submit a registration file to the Faculty's student secretariat in order to obtain authorisation to take the preliminary entrance exam. The application can be sent by email (ssp@unil.ch).

Once you have the authorisation, you must still register for the examinations within the time limits and according to the procedures indicated by the Faculty.

Deadlines

Your application must be submitted by 31 January prior to the summer session in which you wish to sit the preliminary examination.No late applications will be accepted.

Composition du dossier d'inscription

Your registration file must contain:

  • a full curriculum vitae;
  • a copy of your passport, identity card and, for foreign nationals, settlement permit, B work permit, B refugee permit or F permit;
  • an authenticated translation of documents not in French, German, Italian or English;
  • a covering letter explaining which course you wish to study and why you have chosen to study at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Registration procedures for Bachelor's studies at the University of Lausanne

In addition to registering for the preliminary examination with the Facultés des SSP, you must also take the necessary steps to register with the Universitéde Lausanne. The validity of the decision by the Facultéde; des SSP authorising you, in the case in point, to take the preliminary examination is subject to the following conditionsThis is subject to a subsequent examination of your registration file by the UNIL Registrar's Office. Registration with this service must be completed by 30 April prior to the academic year in which you wish to begin your Bachelor's studies.

Eligibility period

In accordance with Article 9 of the Directive 3.16 on Preliminary Entrance Examinations for University Baccalaureate Courses in UNIL Faculties, successful completion of the preliminary entrance examination entitles the candidate to admission to the faculty for 2 years from the autumn semester immediately following the examination session.

Transfer to another faculty

People who have passed the preliminary entrance examination for the Faculties of Arts, Social and Political Sciences, or Theology and Religious Studies have the option of changing to one of the other two faculties. Conditions: they must not have previously failed the preliminary examination of the faculty in question, must in principle have spent at least two semesters at the faculty for which the preliminary entrance examination was passed, and must have obtained at least 30 ECTS credits.
