Signing a new exchange agreement with another university allows the following activities to be set up:
- Short stay (maximum two weeks) for a member of UNIL teaching staff at the partner university
- Short stay (maximum one or two weeks) by a colleague from the partner university at UNIL
- Student and PhD student exchanges (one or two semesters)

- Existing collaboration with long-term prospects
- Planned joint activities (only teaching activities can be supported under an SEMP agreement)
- Promotion of exchange opportunities among students and colleagues
- Possibility of both inward and outward student exchanges
Financial support is available for both teaching staff and students under signed agreements. The conditions vary depending on the type of agreement (see links below). The IRO supports the signing of SEMP agreements over bilateral agreements with European partners participating in the Erasmus programme as it offers more favourable financial conditions.
