The EDI (Equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion) commission of the FBM is organizing a leadership training course, for the fifth time running in 2025, in collaboration with HFP consulting (specialists in leadership training for scientists). The course will take place in person at the Biopôle, Epalinges. The date for the course will be announced shortly.
The courses are open to all principal investigators of the FBM that are responsible for research groups and also to clinicians that have a PAST-PTC title. Other research clinicans will be considered on a case by case basis.
Two courses will be offered:
1) Leadership essentials:tailored to junior group leaders of the FBM (such as Ambizione, FNS/ERC starting grant (Prima,Eccellenza) Cloetta, Privat-docent, PAST, PAST-PTC, or junior MER). This course is for aspiring and new leaders who want to explore key competencies and skills to lead effectively and manage a high performing team with a culture of inclusiveness.
2) Leadership for leaders: targeted to senior MER, PAS, or PO of the FBM. This course challenges experienced leaders to evolve their leadership style and improve their effectiveness in leading individuals, teams, and institutes in an inclusive environment. This course is especially recommended for Professors taking further leadership positions, for example, as head of a department, school, or in large collaborative networks.
Principal investigators are promoted to new positions which involve increasing responsibilities during their careers, but often without the tools to help them become successful and responsible team managers and institutional leaders. The EDI commission, with support from the Equal opportunity office at UNIL, aims to establish and nurture a strong culture of team and faculty management which are both efficient and respectful of people and values. We propose a leadership training to implement this aim and form a network of PIs who will serve as change leaders in our faculty and beyond.
